Tips For Travelling with Young Children

If you have booked a family holiday or are planning to visit relatives abroad with your children, you may be concerned about how your children will be whilst travelling. The last thing you want is to have your child screaming and annoying the whole airplane. However, remember to always focus on the child’s needs. Other people who are being protective over their nap do not matter as much as your child. You are in the airplane to get from one place to another, they are not paying to have a nap, so try not to let their stress add to your stress. If you are calm, your child will feel safer and hopefully calmer too. Here are some more tips for travelling with young children.

  1. A couple of weeks before the trip, hide some of your child’s toys, preferably one’s that are easily portable that they hopefully won’t miss too much, and pack them a bag you will take with onto the plane. Hopefully, because your child wouldn’t have seen the toys for a while, they will be excited to see them and want to play with them whilst travelling.
  2. Bring books they enjoy and a cuddly toy or blanket they find comforting. As you will be sleeping in an unfamiliar place, something that reminds your child of their bed at home will help comfort them to sleep.

  1. Travelling since the covid-19 pandemic started has been somewhat risky, so you must be prepared for any last-minute changes to your plans. Make sure you have a phone plan that allows you to make cheap international calls so you can call home from abroad in case you need to.
