Arreton Manor – Isle of Wight – If you are looking for a spooky weekend away, then look no further than Arreton Manor on the picturesque Isle of Wight. This splendid building dates all the way back to 872 AD, and one of its previous owners is Edward the Confessor!  So, as you can imagine, a beautiful house with as much history as this one is going to attract a few spooky goings on! Count Slade de Pomery, one of the manor’s previous owners, used to often report banging and knocking on his bedroom door in the middle of the night – only to find that when he opened the door, there was nobody there. He was once pushed back into the room by what he described as invisible ghostly hands, and a house helper who was on duty at the time, reported seeing two ghostly monks. A more violent tale involves Barnaby Leigh, who inherited the manor, only to be smothered by his own son who wanted the manor for himself. After killing his father, he realised his young sister had witnessed the murder, so threw the girl from the upstairs window. Many visitors report a cold area where the girl died.

Busby Stoop Inn – North Yorkshire – Haunted by the ghost of Thomas Busby (the owner of the pub in 1702), Busby was sentenced to hanging for hammering his own father to death! Not only content with haunting both the pub, and the area over the road where he was hung, Busby also tampered with the pubs furniture. On the day of his own execution, Busby reportedly cursed one of the chairs in the pub, saying that anyone who would sit on the chair would face a horrible violent death like the was about to. There are reports of people sitting on the chair and meeting a nasty end only a few hours later, but the chair now languishes in the local museum so that nobody else will be tempted to try it out!
