The British summer garden inspires John Lewis rooftop pop-up

The roof of John Lewis’s Oxford Street store has undergone an exciting transformation just in time for the start of the British summer. The store has created its very own rooftop garden haven, inspired by the British summer garden. The pop-up roof garden features a restaurant and pub, lots of seating – including pretty summer houses you can book – and offers an idyllic city centre haven for tired shoppers wanting to rest their weary feet or anyone else wanting to take a little time out of their day to unwind in a picturesque garden setting.

The rooftop garden was designed by Tony Wood, an experienced gardener and previous winner of the RHS Young Garden Designer of the Year. The garden is open for the entire summer – until early September – and is sure to attract many visitors over the coming months with its appealing, well-thought-out design and delicious food and drink offerings.

Summer house seating

The garden is filled with a variety of flowers, plants and shrubs; in addition, it has a bird feeding area and a pretty water feature. A selection of summer houses can be booked if you want to be sure of getting a seat, each decorated in a different style; for example, there is a fun 1970s-themed house and an interesting travel-themed one.

The summer house is a staple of the British garden, with Ideal Home magazine featuring some fantastic ideas for styling your own summer house, including painting it a cheerful bright blue and accessorising with floral curtains. If you are looking for summer houses in Northern Ireland, or anywhere else in the UK, it is worth checking out the selection available from reputable suppliers such as http://www.morrowsectionalbuildings.com/summer_houses to get some ideas and work out what size and style would be best suited to your outdoor space.

A selection of food and drink

The rooftop garden even has a pub – The Gardener’s Arms – serving a variety of alcoholic and soft drinks to thirsty shoppers. The rooftop garden’s pop-up restaurant changes regularly, with a rotating line-up of providers supplying a variety of tasty dishes over the summer months; for example, Morty & Bob’s will be cooking up its famous cheese toasties, while Foley’s will be preparing delicious Middle Eastern specialties.
